Harbour fully geared up for HK Arbitration Week

Our team in Hong Kong is fully geared up for the 5th Hong Arbitration Week, organised by HKIAC, which launched this morning and actively promotes development of the practice in Asia. The key events which they will host or be present at are:

‘How to manage the costs of arbitration: examining alternative fee arrangements and other cost-controlling tools’ on Monday 17th October from 12:30 pm hosted by Skadden Arps Slate Meagher and Flom. Ruth Stackpool-Moore joins a panel with Kim Rooney, Chair of the Hong Kong Law Reform Commission Working Group on Third Party Funding and The Honourable Dennis Kwok, Legislative Councillor for the Legal Functional Constituency, and others to discuss developments in Hong Kong in relation to third party funding.

‘Insolvency Roundtable’ on Monday 17th October hosted by Lipman Karas from 5:30 pm: Susan Dunn, Ruth Stackpool-Moore and Kiran Sanghera will share their first-hand experience on how third-party funding can be applied as part of insolvency proceedings to a select audience of senior insolvency practitioners.

‘ADR in Asia Conference’ on Tuesday 18th October from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm: the Harbour team will be present to discuss important issues and developments in international arbitration with other prominent members of the arbitration community from across the globe.

‘Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball’ on Tuesday 18th October from 6.30 pm at the JW Marriott Hotel. Harbour Hong Kong will host a table at the ball in aid of the charity Mindset which sets out to raise awareness and create an understanding of mental health issues.

‘China Arbitration Chronicles’, CIETAC’s 60th Anniversary Conference, on Wednesday 19th October from 3 pm: Susan Dunn will share her views on third party funding on the panel ‘Can we expect our own Tesla on the superhighway of international arbitration?’

The oversubscribed ‘Annual Harbour Lecture’ on Wednesday 19th October with Neil Kaplan CBE QC SBS as its first guest speaker on ‘Anyone for Costs?’ The event will take place at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, 2 Lower Albert Road, Central, Hong Kong from 4.30 pm.

‘HK45 Arbitration Pub Quiz’ on 20th October 2016 hosted by Herbert Smith Freehills: Susan Dunn and Neil Kaplan, this time on opposite sides as team captains, will be tested on their non-third party funding knowledge together with six other teams.
